Plot Overview
The crew is preparing for opening night of "Don Juan in Cleveland." Act one begins with the end of the final dress rehearsal. As they rehearse curtain call, they find the lead male dead in his dressing room (This character is never actually seen on stage). Afraid that the news of this actor's death will hurt attendance, they decide to have Ajax play the role without the audience knowing. They plan to claim he died after opening night to get the resulting positive publicity.
Begins well, until a thug arrives to collect money the deceased actor owes him. Also, Ajax's mother arrives but he can't reveal his true identity to her without ruining the plan. Lastly, a newspaper critic intent on digging up any dirt he can find causes even more tumult behind the scenes. Basically, the chaos of a play's opening night is amplified by one ridiculous complication after another.
