 Welcome From Principal's Desk Minimize

Welcome to the ADM Middle School.  My name is Carole Schlapkohl and I am the ADM Middle School Principal.  It is an honor for me to be starting my 33rd year in the ADM School District.  I love working with students during their middle school years.  It’s an exciting time in their life.

Last Day of School Info (3 things students must do)

Be Prepared :)

If we reach our school goal of reading 9,000 books by the end of the school year, students pass their district assessments in Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, and successfully pass end of the year projects in Reading and Writing classes, individual students will not have to attend school on the last day of school, May 23.  Teachers will notify parents of students who need to complete reteaching instruction and retake district assessment on the last day of school.

Students of Citizenship at ADM Middle School

The ADM Middle School staff  identified students at each grade level that represented the Institute for Character Development’s definition of citizenship.  Abby Mullen and Isaac Vrba are our 6th grade students of citizenship.  Kirsten Abbas and Harrison Kennedy are our 7th grade students of citizenship.  Hannah Weesner and Chase Ritchie are our 8th grade students of citizenship.

Congratulations Abbie, Isaac, Kirsten, Harrison, Hannah and Chase!

Bullying Presentation

School Resource Officer, Monte Keller, MS Guidance Counselor, Aaron Mager and Carole Schlapkohl, MS principal,  facilitated a Bullying Prevention & Response presentation to ADM students in grades 6, 7 and 8.  This was an interactive presentation, with students sharing their opinions of what bullying may encompass, the motivation behind bullying and the best practices for responding to situations in which bullying has occurred.  Potential bullying situations that were discussed were situations involving physical aggression, emotional & social isolation and/or cyber-bullying/cell phone misuse.  Students also reviewed the consequences (both legal and school issued) that accompany new bullying laws, the potential downside to "silent communication" (i.e. texting, e-mailing, blogging, etc.) and action plans that should be taken if they or someone they know are being bullied.

Our goal in doing this type of presentation early in the school year is to encourage the students of the ADM Middle School to create A CULTURE where every student can achieve a high level of self-worth.  We want acceptance, tolerance and understanding of differences to be the norm for our student interaction, not the exception.  In order for students to actively live up to these expectations, we feel that they need to be made aware of how an individual's self-concept can be damaged or built up.  For youth to thrive in their communities, they need to FEEL safe and BE safe--socially, emotionally and physically.
