Lion's Club Peace Poster Contest

The Lion's Club Peace Poster Contest is an international contest in which local schools and youth groups worldwide are encouraged to express their visions of peace in a poster format.  More than four million childen from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.  The Adel Lion's Club has been the sponsors for the contest here at ADM for many years.  This year's theme was "Peace, Love and Understanding."  Students could use a variety of different 2-dimensional media, including markers, crayon, paint, and pastels to best describe their interpretation of the theme.  We began our ideas in our 7th grade Art classes back in September, and the posters had to be completed and submitted by the end of October.  The Lion's Club presented three awards this year:  Emily Kay was the 3rd place winner, 2nd place went to Emily Hlas, and the 1st place winner was Emma McAdon.  Emmas's poster also went on to compete at the district level and won 2nd place out of about 15 of the state's top posters.

Representatives of the Adel Lion's Club came to present the monetary awards to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place artists during an assembly in the High School Auditorium on Friday, November 21st.  We are very honored, here at the ADM Middle School, to have the support of the Adel Lion's Club to continue our tradition of participating in the poster contest!  It is a great opportunity for the middle school students to share their creativity with the community.  Congratulations to all of the winners.  We appreciate the hard work of all the students who entered!

7th Grade Science Classes

Chris Adkins, Dallas County Conservationist, spent two days with the ADM 7th grade science class discussing the importance of owls in our ecosystem and specifically Dallas County.  Students learned the different species in the county, their calling sounds, as well as dissecting pellets to determine their diet.

Welcome to the 6-8 Middle School

Dear Middle School Parents and Students:

We welcome you to our website to catch a little glimpse of our school district.

We are very proud of our school and the education that our students receive.  6-8 Middle School students not only get a great education, but they also are given the goals needed to be prepared for life through their wonderful learning experiences here.

The teachers and students continue to work hard and perform at high levels.  Our staff professional development is focused on best practices in the classroom.  We ask ourselves, “What are the essential learnings?” and “What are the best ways for our students to grasp this knowledge?”  We build on our previous success while focusing our efforts and resources to improve student achievement and provide a safe, healthy learning environment.

Our staff focus is “Relationships, Relationships, Relationships”.  We feel that if we are connected together and are always striving to build positive relationships with our students and parents, everyone will succeed!

We are looking forward to a productive and successful year at ADM 6-8 Middle School.  There are many new and exciting things on the horizon, all being initiated with one goal in mind – Student Success!

Sincerely,

Kim Timmerman, Principal
